Signs of stress that almost no one knows about.

Stress affects a lot of people. While some say they are accustomed to it and even wear it as a badge of honor, others are not even aware of it.

However, this does not mean that stress is healthy for us. It's similar to how climbers spend a few weeks in Base Camp acclimating to their climb of Mount Everest. Even though they have more time to adjust to the environment, being in these harsh conditions still has an influence on their bodies. This explains why, even after acclimatization, some people's organs continue to fail.

To put it plainly, stress is not always healthy, even if we're accustomed to it or have become conditioned to it.

While there are benefits to stress, prolonged periods of high stress or chronic stress can negatively impact our weight, overall health, and well-being.

Stress symptoms include feeling overburdened, lacking time, having trouble falling asleep, and being unable to handle mental or emotional strain. However, many people are unaware of additional stress indicators.

Prior to delving into them, it's critical to comprehend what stress is, why it occurs, and the consequences it has on us.

What is stress?

Stress is the sensation of tension, either bodily or mental, that arises when we react to demands or situations that seem dangerous. The "fight or flight" response is how our bodies respond to situations that we perceive as threats, whether they are real or imagined.

Hormones are released in response, preparing us to either fight or flee from the threat. The fight-or-flight response is a physiological autonomic response that has preserved human survival. Our ancestors had two options when faced with danger in their surroundings (such as a grizzly bear searching for prey): flee or stay and combat the threat.

Why do we get stressed?

The majority of people think that outside factors like a demanding job, a miserable marriage or relationship, having a chronic condition, or even just being overly busy are the main cause of their stress. In actuality, though, a difficult life, marriage, or work is really only a mirror of our mentalities and habits. Our coping mechanisms in stressful situations are also influenced by our habits and mentality. They will either make the stress worse or make it less bad.

Some behaviors and ways of thinking that might lead to stress include:

  • Pleasing the public
  • Putting off things
  • evaluating oneself against others
  • Not being who you really are
  • attempting to have all control
  • False impression
  • Seeking perfection

Signs you’re stressed and don’t know it:

Many people experience stress on a daily basis without even realizing it. Because they've gotten used to it, they think it's normal and don't think they can alter it because they don't realize how stress is a mirror of their thinking and behaviors. People's lives are not hectic. Stress in their lives is a reflection of their behaviors and beliefs.

Regretfully, stress adaptation does not absolve it of its negative effects. It's comparable to the frog in the hot water metaphor. A frog will immediately jump out of boiling water if it is abruptly submerged in it. The frog will, however, be roasted to death if it is placed in tepid water that is heated to a boil because it will continue to adjust to the slow increase in water temperature. Stress adaptation is the same. It's too late by the time you realize it.

Stress indicators that hardly nobody is aware of include:

  • poor skin or recurrent breakouts
  • inadequate memory and focus dehydration stiff or sore muscles, particularly in the shoulders and neck
  • migraines and headaches
  • profuse sweating, elevated heart rate, and decision fatigue—the incapacity to make decisions

How to reduce your stress:

If you're like most people, you probably think that deep breathing, yoga, meditation, aromatherapy, massage, and other stress-relieving methods may help you relax. Even if there's nothing wrong with adopting some of these habits, they won't make you feel less stressed.

This is so that stress management approaches cannot address your stress, which is a reflection of your behaviors and thinking (do you recall the list you read earlier?). Taking care of the underlying cause of your stress is the only way to make it go away.

For example:-  Saying "yes" to everyone but yourself is likely to occur, for instance, if you struggle to put yourself first. This implies that you'll be pressed for time all the time (stress). Additionally, you'll struggle to prioritize your downtime and sleep, which will make you feel worn out and angry (more stress). You'll struggle to maintain a consistent workout schedule and won't have time to cook or eat healthful meals, which will cause you stress and guilt.

Regretfully, aromatherapy, meditation, or even physical activity won't be able to lessen the tension that comes with not putting yourself first. In actuality, exercising to relieve stress frequently results in increased tension, accidents, and burnout. The only approach to lessen stress is to deal with the mindset and habits that contribute to it, i.e., the people-pleasing and other practices that prevent you from prioritizing yourself.

At Imani Tribe, we acknowledge that stress is a part of life for everyone, but how each person responds to stressors depends on their habits. Your ability to manage and lessen stress in your life will improve as you become more adept at controlling your behaviors.
